What color furniture and accents should I use with white walls and beige/off-white carpet?

I just moved into my first place and my landlord won't let me paint. The cabinets in the baths and kitchen are a golden brown stain and the is that pink/light brown color that a lot of houses (that I've been in) have. I also need help with what color towels, shower curtain, etc. works well with the above bath furnishings and is the current trend that all the rooms in your house match or can I use different colors in different rooms.

Answer:
I would select one overall theme to use, and then use different variations of that theme throughout your new home. For instance, earth tones are very popular, so you could do terra cotta in one room, gold in another, and a green in another. Or, if you choose a "bright" theme, you could do orange in one room, hot pink elsewhere, and turquoise somewhere else...see what I mean?

Personally, earth tones are very popular, and I just used them in my new home: Terra cotta, light gold, and avocado green. It's very easy to find accessories to go with this theme and it's very welcoming and warm.
